2012 Hyundai Veloster ReviewMar 28th, 2012
The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is a new design to the sporty hatchback niche. There are three real doors on this sporty hatchback. How did Hyundai do it you ask? Designers achieved this by using a longer coupe-like door on the driver side and two smaller sedan-like doors on the passenger side. With this change, you will no longer have to worry about the comfort and convenience of your passengers. Everyone can get in and out of this sport car with ease.
The Veloster appeals to many groups of drivers. It charms younger vehicle shoppers with its unique formulation of hip urban design, a sporty driving feel, reasonable comfort and enough features to satisfy and entertain a crowd that’s always connected. The fuel economy catches the eye of any driver.
The interior of this groundbreaking little machine definitely exceeds expectations with its standard electronic and entertainment features. Hyundai’s new BlueLink telematics system comes with the typical safety features, plus outbound text messaging and turn-by-turn navigation. Other extras include location sharing (via Facebook), a geo-fence system that alerts you when the car travels outside of a defined area (for keeping tabs on younger drivers) and valet alert functions. You also get the added benefits of a large trunk, 7” LCD Touchscreen Multimedia system with Am/FM/XM/CD/MP3 Player with 6 speakers and rearview camera, steering wheel audio remote control, heated front seats, proximity entry with push button start and driver’s seat height adjuster.
The exterior is thinking outside of the box, this is apparent with the three door design. The coupe-like driver door permits easy ingress and egress and the two smaller passenger-side doors provide convenience. Sleek aerodynamics and bold modern design, as is always found with Hyundai vehicles, makes the Veloster a breath of fresh air on the streets. It is definitely a sharp looking hatchback with an extreme front grille that is neither circular nor square.
The Base model is the only trim that is currently available. With this model you get a 1.6L I4 DOHC Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) 4-cyl with an output of 138 horsepower and 123 lb-feet of torque. The fuel economy- L/100km (MPG) for city driving is 7.2 (28) and highway cruising 6.2 (40). This hatchback can go-go-go.
The 2012 Hyundai Veloster has the best in futuristic safety features: anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, dual front, side and curtain airbags, vehicle stability management and electronic stability control with traction control system.
Some awards that are under the belt of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster include :2012 Decisive Magazine’s Urban Car of the Year, Ecityofstyle’s Auto Style Award, as part of the eCityof Style.com 12th annual awards program, “Best New Design” award for 2012 presented by the Automobile Journalistic Association of Canada (AJAC) and Winding Road, which recently named the 2012 Veloster the “Best under $20,000 in its annual Best Car of the Year Awards.
